Introduction:

I have endeavored to provide, in this biographical essay, as much relevant material by Myatt and others, as possible, in the hope that it will give readers a balanced overview, and enable them to draw their own conclusions about Myatt.

"There was something unsettling about the man. Rumours seemed to hang around him like circling vultures..." (1) "Myatt is an ethereal character. He is a dangerous man..." (Gerry Gable, Searchlight)

"I genuinely like Myatt. I see him in the same mold as Manson: a prophet of the Kali Yuga; a nihilistic visionary - but with a grander vision than Manson's, and far more ruthless, fanatical and determined to see it come to fruition."

"This Man is an Avatar of authentic experience, a man of inconceivable integrity and nobility; A Man who has donned many guises and philosophical and metaphysical systems and political theories, to effect change in the collective unconscious and the world."

"Myatt may seem to have flitted from one politico-religious philosophy to another, but there is a terrible thread of continuity and rigour through his life and writings that suggests he is much more than a disingenuous provocateur. Naziism and Islamicism have served, in turn, as modalities of disruption for what remains at core an occult working to sow general chaos and division - the necessary passage of "Helter Skelter" to break down the Old Order, before the founding of the New."

"The leader of the English neo-Nazi movement, David Myatt (now Abdul Aziz ibn Myatt) appeals to all enemies of the Zionists to embrace the Jihad, the 'true martial religion' which will most effectively fight against the Jews and the Americans." Ely Karmon, from a paper presented at the NATO Workshop On Terrorism and Communications - Countering the Terrorist Information Cycle, Slovakia, April 2005 AD

    A Brief Sketch:

A controversial figure, now resident in the British Isles, David Myatt was born shortly after the Second World War and spent much of his childhood abroad, first in Tanzania where his father worked for the British Government (according to some sources as a Diplomat) and later in the Far East where he began his training in Martial Arts. Myatt returned to England in his mid-teens to complete his education. His political opinions were formed around this time and by his own admission he became involved with "extremist politics".

Despite the assumptions of various journalists, Myatt himself describes his childhood as an "extremely happy one, and I have many, many fond memories of those years."

He studied Physics at University but dropped-out to take up politics full-time. He described his role as that of a "revolutionary street-activist" and it was during this time - the early 1970's - that he was imprisoned twice for his violent political activism. One of these terms of imprisonment resulted from him leading a skinhead gang in a racial attack. During this period he was involved in many violent confrontations, believing, as he later said, that "violence purifies and makes the man." He was also, on a number of occasions, the bodyguard of Colin Jordan, one of the founders of the World Union of National Socialists, and original leader of British Movement of which Myatt was a member for many years. In addition, Myatt was recruited by the underground paramilitary group, Column 88 which - it has been alleged - was part of the European Gladio "stay-behind" network, set up, and trained by, Special Forces units (such as the British SAS) to conduct sabotage and assassinations in the event of a Soviet invasion of Western Europe.(2)

After several years political activity, Myatt became disillusioned with the leadership of the various extreme Right-Wing organisations, and spent some time as a 'Gentleman of the Road' - a homeless wanderer, or vagabond. It was during this period that he wrote his first volume of poetry, which he entitled Gentleman of the Roads. These wanderings may also have been prompted, in part, by a series of ultimately unhappy romantic liaisons, one of which led to the young woman in question moving abroad where she gave birth to Myatt's daughter.

Following this period as a vagabond, Myatt then traveled widely, and spent some time studying Buddhism, including a period living in a Buddhist monastery. Some time later he entered the noviciate of a Christian monastery where he stayed for nearly two years.

While there, he made a serious study of the Western Occult tradition, and gained a reputation for being a "Satanist". Myatt himself has emphatically denied being or having been a Satanist.

After several more years of travel and study, he, in the late 1970's, settled in the rural English county of Shropshire, married for the first time, began translating ancient Greek literature and published translations of Sappho, Aeschylus and Sophocles. In addition, he wrote several National Socialist works, such as Vindex - The Destiny of the West and published more poetry including his collection Pagan Poems. He also continued his travels, and developed a particular affection for Egypt and its people, and ever since has returned on a regular basis to visit the friends made there. While in Shropshire, he attempted to set up a rural community composed of people who shared his belief in "the ideals of Blood and Soil." This did not succeed, due - according to Myatt - to a lack of commitment from those who had expressed interest in the project. It was during his time in Shropshire that Myatt was questioned by the Police, and interviewed by several journalists, about an unsolved murder in the area.

According to someone who knew Myatt for many years, shortly before he became involved with the violent, extremist, neo-nazi group, Combat 18, Myatt destroyed his own copies of his poetry and denounced all his poems as "self-indulgent and decadent. The personal life is dead..." He declared an intention never to write personal poetry again and expressed his own view on Poetry and Art in his essay, written at this time, A New And Numinous Art. This decision to cease writing personal poetry may, or may not, have been the result of the death of his second wife, who died from cancer at the age of 39, his first marriage having failed after his wife ran off with a younger woman (who, incidentally, was the dedicatee of Myatt's translation of Sappho's poetry).

He then, in the early years of the 1990's, returned to the political fray "a harder and more determined man" according to one source, and became involved with Combat 18. It was during this period of his life - following his marriage to his third wife - that he wrote and published his voluminous writings about the philosophical, religious and ethical dimensions of National Socialism, and there was a rumor that, at this time, he received financial support from a former Officer of Hitler's SS. It was also alleged that he set-up a world-wide underground "Occult-fascist Axis" linking groups in the United States, Europe, New Zealand and elsewhere. He also published several purely scientific works which, in his own words, aimed to create a new "organic science and technology" based on his idea of an acausal universe.

Following the arrest of the leader of Combat 18 - Paul "Charlie" Sargent - for murder, Combat 18 split into two feuding groups, with Myatt taking over the leadership of the loyalist Sargent faction. Myatt was also arrested by the British Police following allegations of terrorist activities and conspiracy to murder. The case was later dropped - after a three year international investigation involving Interpol, the FBI and the Canadian Police - due to "insufficient evidence."

During this time, Myatt continued to produce voluminous writings in support of National Socialism, and what he called "Folk Culture", and created what many people regarded as a new revisionist version of National Socialism itself, based upon what Myatt described as the ethic of personal honor.

A year after taking over the leadership of the loyalist faction of Combat 18, with Sargent convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, Myatt handed-over the leadership of this group to concentrate once more on what he then regarded as his "spiritual mission" and his aim of creating a pagan rural community where individuals can live in harmony with Nature. He was at that time working on a farm and his writings extolled the virtues of manual labor and what he has called the new "cosmic ethics".

Myatt then confounded both his supporters and critics by converting to Islam, and began - several years before the September 11 attacks - to praise people such as Usama bin Laden. He then undertook a series of travels in Islamic countries, and began promoting Jihad and Islamic terrorism.

    Light and Sinister Peregrinations:

What is especially interesting about Myatt's life is that there are two, apparently mutually exclusive, versions. The brief sketch above is taken primarily from the "official" version which Myatt himself has propagated, such as in his Autobiographical Notes (in three parts) with some information - especially about the gaps Myatt omits - supplied by anti-fascist organizations such as Searchlight. In this "official version" Myatt portrays himself as a life-long National Socialist undertaking a spiritual, philosophical and religious quest to find the meaning and purpose of our lives, and as a person committed to creating a revolution, by whatever means necessary, as the prelude to the emergence of Imperium which will create a new type of human society and a new, higher, type of human being. In this version, his Occult researches and involvement are described as a means to aid National Socialism, the destabilization of society and the revolution - or Holy War of National Socialism - which he has often written about.

The other version derives from such sources as Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke's book Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism, and the Politics of Identity. This version - which does seem to be supported by organizations such as Searchlight - portrays Myatt as primarily a Satanist: the heir to an ancient and sinister tradition which tradition he has extensively added to and indeed transformed.

But there was an even darker side to Myatt, hidden even from most of his close political friends. Myatt was a leading supporter of the Order of Nine Angles (ONA), a hardline Satanic church which he himself established in 1985. Espousing "traditional Satanism" and rituals involving human sacrifice, Myatt and the ONA are considered dangerous even by those within the Satanic fraternity. (Searchlight magazine, July 2000) According to this Occult version, Satanism, for Myatt is "a means to create a new fearless individual, a higher human type in a Nietzschean sense." (Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism, and the Politics of Identity, p.217).

"Myatt rejects the quasi-religious organization and ceremonial antics of the Church of Satan, the Temple of Set and other satanic groups. He believes that traditional satanism goes far beyond the gratification of the pleasure-principle and involves the arduous achievement of self-mastery, self-overcoming in a Nietzschean sense, and ultimately cosmic wisdom. His conception of satanism is practical, with an emphasis on individual growth into realms of darkness and danger through practical acts of prowess, endurance and the risk of life." (Black Sun, p.218) This certainly fits Myatt's own life, which is one long accumulation of often quite extraordinary and seemingly contradictory experiences and involvements. It is interesting that Myatt's idea of an acausal universe is central to the ONA explanation of "magick", and especially what it terms "Aeonic Magick" (3). In this Occult version of his life, Myatt is portrayed as the Grand Master - the leader - of the secret, subversive and satanic Order of Nine Angles, and may, or may not, have performed rituals or acts involving human sacrifice, and may or may not have used violence, terrorism, political groups and individuals for sinister, or evil, ends. These sinister ends include the creation - via a neo-nazi revolution - of a Galactic Imperium. Admittedly, the Satanism of the Order of Nine Angles is very far removed from the current public conception of Satanism, involving as it does self-mastery and self-overcoming although it does involve, according to Goodrick-Clarke, "the performance of acts that are generally regarded as forbidden, illegal and evil... Myatt derives the word 'evil' from the Gothic term 'ubils' meaning 'going beyond the due measure'....."

Which version is correct? The "official, National Socialist, version" propagated by Myatt himself? Or the Occult version, propagated by others? It seems that, for the moment at least, we will all have to draw our own conclusions based on the little evidence we have. I believe this is what Myatt himself would wish, as a test for us and our honor, although I admit that sometimes I cannot quite escape the intuition that I can hear Myatt laughing.(4)

Subversive Intellectual, Theoretician of Cosmic Ethics, and Supporter of Islamic Terrorism

Following his involvement with Combat 18, Myatt allegedly converted to Islam and was believed to have begun a new life as a Muslim. Yet his political past was not forgotten by his former enemies.

The following quote is taken from an article, Cyberspace A New Medium for Communication, Command and Control by Extremists, by Michael Whine, and posted, in April 1999, on an Israeli counter-terrorist web-site.

" The Far Right has also used the Internet to post bomb-making manuals which are not otherwise available in Europe. The British neo-Nazi, David Myatt, of the National Socialist Movement posted his 'Practical Guide to Aryan Revolution' at the end of November 1997 at the website of Canadian Bernard Klatt in order to evade police scrutiny. The chapter headings included: Methods of Covert Direct Action, Escape and Evasion, Assassination, Terror Bombing, Sabotage, Racial War, How to Create a Revolutionary Situation, Direct Action Groups, etc. The contents provided a detailed step-by-step guide for terrorist insurrection with advice on assassination targets, rationale for bombing and sabotage campaigns, and rules of engagement. Although he may have committed no indictable offence in Canada, Klatt was forced to close down his site in April 1998. Myatt is currently the subject of a British criminal investigation for incitement to murder and to promote race hatred."

Not long after his alleged conversion to Islam, Myatt returned to political activity following information published in newspapers and magazines, and broadcast on Television, by Journalists investigating the role he or his writings played in the "London nail bomb" attacks for which NSM member David Copeland was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Information at that time indicated that Myatt re-established The National-Socialist Movement on the basis of what has become known as "leaderless resistance". He was also alleged to be behind the distribution of an updated version of The Practical Guide to Aryan Revolution (renamed A Practical Guide to the Strategy and Tactics of Revolution) as well as other documents extolling the merits of leaderless resistance and calling for armed insurrection.

David Myatt does not have the appearance of a Nazi ideologue. Now 49, and sporting a long ginger beard, Barbour jacket, cords and a tweed flat cap, he resembles an eccentric country gentleman out for a Sunday ramble. But Myatt is anything but the country squire, for beneath this seemingly innocuous exterior is a man of extreme and calculated hatred. Over the past ten years, Myatt has emerged as the most ideologically driven nazi in Britain, preaching race war and terrorism. Active since the late 1960s, Myatt has been through the National Front, British Movement and National Democratic Freedom Movement and has even flirted with the British National Party. However, none gave him the racial war that he so desired. "For the Destiny of the Aryan to be fulfilled, there has to be a holy war against all those who oppose National Socialism", he once wrote.

He has long since turned his back on electoral politics, believing his "Aryan society" could only be brought about by force. "The primary duty of all National Socialists is to change the world. National Socialism means revolution: the overthrow of the existing System and its replacement with a National-Socialist society. Revolution means struggle: it means war. It means certain tactics have to be employed, and a great revolutionary movement organised which is primarily composed of those prepared to fight, prepared to get their hands dirty and perhaps spill some blood." (Searchlight magazine, July 2000 AD)

During this time, one of the websites featuring his writings included strident essays such as Why Intolerance is Natural and these essays appeared to refute the suggestion that Myatt had become more tolerant and less radical. If anything, such writings revealed an even harder and more determined man. These writings - with titles like Nature and Racism, and Racism and Aryan Ethics - are and were, in effect, a theoretical justification for racism, and, combined with Myatt's exposition of Aryan Law, Aryan Ethics, Aryan Culture and his advocacy of rebellion, insurrection and leaderless resistance, represented a new, significant and disturbing development in extremist "right-wing" thought.

Myatt is believed to have been behind a 15-page document which called for race war, under the imprint White Wolves. While groups such as C18 had regularly advocated race war, the authors of this article seemed far more serious. Claiming that every nation had the absolute right to defend itself, it argued "our main line of attack must be on the immigrants themselves, the Black and Asian ghettos. If this is done regularly, effectively and brutally, the aliens will respond by attacking Whites at random, forcing them off the fence and into self-defence. This will begin the spiral of violence which will force the Establishment's hand on the race issue.

"The British people will fight, but not if we offer them only the soft voting option. WE must point them in the right direction by taking the necessary action to start the spiral of violence which will ultimately include even the reluctant, forcing them to fight. The victory will come from them once they have no other option, but the initiative must come from us. There are a dozen Belfast's and a hundred Londonderry's in Britain today, they're just waiting for a spark ..."

The document concluded: "We do not believe that we alone can win the Race War, but we can start it!" (Searchlight, July 2000 AD.)

During this time, his political enemies continued their campaign against him, for they began sending out letters to Muslims and Mosques warning them about Myatt, and including with these letters copies of articles he is alleged to have written, including the now notorious Why Racism is Right. As for his involvement with Islam, Myatt's article Islam and National-Socialism - written in the early days of his involvement with Islam - raises interesting questions. He seems, even then, to have decided that an alliance between National Socialists and Muslims was a good idea. In addition, and following his involvement with Islam, Myatt began to write a series of articles in which he attempted to portray National Socialism in a new, non-racist, way. That is, Myatt created, and assiduously propagated, what one source described as a "revisionist version" of National Socialism and which Myatt himself claims is "genuine National-Socialism". Myatt's new vision of National Socialism is of an ethical - if not religious - way of life, based upon the ideal of personal honor. In one of these revisionist political articles - entitled Why National-Socialism Is Not Racist - he was critical of the very concept of racism and attempted to portray National Socialists as people who respected other races and their culture. Several other articles, by him, elaborated upon this idea of a tolerant National Socialism, for example his Honour, or Instinct? The Question of Racism and Tolerance.

Another article - or rather, published letter - contained the significant and noteworthy statement:

Of course, I admit there was a time when I went around with such petty and irrational attitudes, even though it really was not my nature to do so. For several years I myself preached intolerance, believing it was necessary, and the right tactical thing to do, for surely the very survival of our race and culture was at stake? But the more I thought about such tactics, the more uneasy I became. It took me several years to consciously understand and express in words why I felt uneasy: it was because such racial intolerance, such tactics, contradicted the very essence of National-Socialism. In brief, I re-discovered the essence of National-Socialism: its ethics, its values, its morality, its way of life. (Source: Aliens and National-Socialism )

Furthermore Myatt has also propagated and written about what he calls Folk Culture and Cosmic Ethics, which seems to confirm this new, more tolerant approach. This may possibly be a learning from his Muslim days, or possibly yet another peregrination along the Faustian way. It may also be just a tactic in his life-long quest to win converts for what he describes as the "folkish philosophy underlying National-Socialism". Whatever or whichever it is, it appears Myatt continued his life-long quest to create a revolution, or at the very least continued to create the intellectual and practical foundations for the revolutionary overthrow of the Government.

Myatt, as ever, had "no public comment to make" about such matters, probably hoping, given his belief in personal honor, that those who really do wish to know his version of events, will ask him in person and in private, as he declared in one of his many Statements for Journalists:

"Such a personal contact is honourable, and I shall only ever give my side of the story to those who have the honour, the decency, to ask me in person and in private. (An interview is not a private matter between two individuals.) "

Whatever, it seemed then that Myatt abandoned any and all political involvement - and even writing political items and articles - in favor of striving once again to create a rural folk community:

I intend now to concentrate on trying to make the ideals of Folk Culture real through a rural community, and possibly completing my translations of Homer and Aristotle. I will also withdraw completely from the world, the milieu, of politics - the world of a manic, urbanized, hubris - striving instead to live as I believe we should live, in a simple almost contemplative way, and upholding reason and honour and seeking to attain a balance with Nature. The politics of our times is the politics of the rootless urban dweller, and this is the total antithesis of our natural way of Blood and Soil. (Heil and Farewell.)

    End of the Quest?

Of especial interest, in the context of Myatt's Islam, was his Foreseeing the Future (written some time ago before his conversion to Islam) in which he stated his belief that Islam could create the Galactic Empire he has always dreamed about:

I firmly believe that Islam has the potential to create not only a new civilization, governed according to reason, but also a new Empire which could take on and overthrow the established world-order dedicated as this world-order is to usury, decadence and a god-less materialism... I also believe that a new Islamic Empire could create the Galactic Empire, or at least lay the foundations of it. Perhaps the first human colonies on another world will have as their flag the Islamic crescent, a flag inscribed with the words, in Arabic, In the Name of Allah, The Compassionate, The Merciful.

Abdul-Aziz Ibn Myatt

In addition, Myatt, calling himself either Abdul-Aziz Ibn Myatt or Abdul Aziz, wrote many articles - including one entitled Palestine, Islam, The West, and the Zionist Quest for World Domination and another entitled The Crusader War Against Islam - in which he expressed the view that Islam, and only Islam, has the potential to defeat, in the near future, what he calls "Zionist power and influence". He viewed the Intifada (Uprising) in Palestine as "one of the first battles in the war to destroy the evil of world Zionism" and, more recently, has written about the invasion of Afghanistan as "an openly declared war - by the Zionist-Crusader Alliance - against Islam" because this Alliance regards Islam (or at least the militant variety) as its foremost enemy. Myatt also gave many talks about Islam and the need for Jihad, and was known to have visited several Islamic countries.

Considering these views, and Myatt's belief that Islam could create his Galactic Empire, his enthusiastic support of Islam - and even his own conversion - are easily explainable, as is his support for the actions and beliefs of such people as Usama bin Laden, whom Myatt has praised in several articles, such as The War Between Imaan and Kufr in which he states:

The chief enemy of the true believers in this war is America, and all true believers are, knowingly or unknowingly, at war with America: with the American government, its people and its military forces... The defeat or downfall or collapse of the kufr State of America may take a few years, or several decades or longer ...and we must strive in the way of Allah against the infidels, for however long it takes. "

Yet it may well be - as some commentators have suggested all along - that Myatt's interest in, and avowal of, Islam was purely tactical, part of some strategy to enable co-operation between radical Muslims and National Socialists, a co-operation Myatt admits to considering in Part Two of his Autobiographical Notes, written four or more years ago (long before the September 11 attacks) which Notes included a photograph of Usama bin Laden and the statement: "I came to greatly admire these modern fighters in the cause of Islam..."

Would it be possible for there to be co-operation between these militant, Islamic, groups and National-Socialists? We both, it seemed, wanted to overthrow the existing power-structure of the West. I still passionately believed that the System was so repressive, so inherently evil - contrary to everything I believed in - that any assistance in undermining and destroying it would be welcome. (Myatt: Autobiographical Notes, Part Two) Whatever the reason for his involvement with Islam, or the truth about his commitment and conversion to Islam, Myatt was and is apparently still fighting "the common enemy" as his many Islamic articles, Usenet postings and talks indicate. For most of those articles and postings - written under the name of Abdul Aziz - concern the need for Muslims to activeeely fight what he and others termed "the Zionist-Crusader alliance." Many of these articles praise and defend Usama bin Laden, and praise and justify "suicide attacks" (or martyrdom operations as he and others call them) in Palestine, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Myatt - using his Muslim persona - also defended the September 11 attacks and the bombings in Bali. Indeed, "Abdul Aziz" wrote one of the most detailed defenses, in the English language, of martyrdom operations, entitled Are Martyrdom Operations Lawful According to Quran and Sunnah?

Nevertheless, despite his alleged conversion to Islam, his political opponents and enemies were - and are - intent on continuing their campaign against him, as witness the publication of three books (White Riot, Black Sun and Homeland: Into a World of Hate ) whose authors constantly refer to Myatt's alleged involvement with Satanism, an involvement which Myatt has consistently denied. This campaign may well be because many of Myatt's critics doubted the sincerity of his conversion to Islam.

Myatt, however, explained this campaign against him in his own inimitable way:

The fact is that the Zionists - and all those who oppose the aim of a free, independent, Aryan homeland governed according to our unique Aryan laws - have no answer to the Aryan ideals I have propounded and explained over the past twenty or so years. Therefore they continue to smear me using one fabricated so-called "interview" which was printed nearly thirty years ago. I have explained in clear words - in writings such as my The Complete Guide to the Aryan Way of Life - what our Aryan ethics are, what our Aryan way of life involves, what our system of government should be, as I have consistently championed the cause of Aryan freedom and Aryan culture. By trying to discredit me with their lying "black propaganda" about my non-existent involvement with satanism the Zionists - and all who oppose the aim of a free, independent, Aryan homeland - hope that Aryans will ignore my writings and the ideals I have expounded. That so many Aryans, it seems, continue to believe and parrot such Zionist "black propaganda" just reveals how far we, as a people, have strayed from our civilizing ideals of honour, loyalty and duty to the folk. (Myatt and Combat 18: Interview by JRW, December 2001 AD) However, according to Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke in his Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism, and the Politics of Identity there is another source - other than the infamous "interview" mentioned by Myatt - which details Myatt's involvement with Satanism. This is a manuscript entitled Diablerie: Revelations of a Satanist written in 1991. Apparently, only a few copies of this work are in existence and, according to Goodrick-Clarke, it was written by Myatt, and details his otherwise unknown career as - among other things - a mercenary and a contract killer. This of itself raises some suspicions concerning its authenticity, considering these things have never been mentioned by sources such as the long established Searchlight organization which has been monitoring Myatt's activities for at least the past twenty years, and considering also that Myatt himself has never mentioned such activities. When asked about this Diablerie Myatt said he was aware of its existence, had read a "badly photocopied version of it some years ago", denied authorship and considered it to be a "a forgery at worst and at best some kind of subversive jape by someone previously involved in Occult things." He added:

"I can only repeat what I have said many times over the past seven or more years: that the System, the Establishment - what we refer to as ZOG - seeks to discredit me and thus my political and philosophical writings. Involvement with Satanism is just one means the System and its lackeys, agents, and allies, have used and are using to try and discredit me and my writings. For instance, years ago Searchlies suggested to the Police that I was responsible for an unsolved murder, and as a result I was questioned by the Police and also approached by World in Action. But the allegation was just that: an unproved, and malicious, allegation. As for my own past, I have given as much detail as I care to give in my three-part Autobiographical Notes and anyone who wants to know the truth about my past and my involvement with Occultism, such as it was, should refer to them, and especially to my essay Occultism and National-Socialism and my article The Spirituality of National-Socialism: A Reply to Criticism." (Private E-Mail from Myatt to JR Wright, dated 15 February 2002 A.D.)

It is interesting that as late as July of 2001 AD - several years after his conversion to Islam - Myatt was still publicly issuing new editions of his The National-Socialist newsletter - #50, dated May 112yf, was also circulated on the Internet, and included an article entitled Islam, National-Socialism and Other Races. In addition, it seems that his re-founded NSM was still active at least until the end of 2001, with NSM literature containing the statement:

The NSM has been re-organized into a new type of organization, suitable to our tyrannical times (to the Police State we live in) and suitable to the modern means of communication which have been developed. For tactical reasons, the NSM is now based upon the concept of leaderless resistance. He was also still writing National Socialist articles such as the one entitled Esoteric Hitlerism: Idealism, the Third Reich and the Essence of National-Socialism in which he stated: What has hitherto not been very well understood in respect of National-Socialism, is that it is not race which defines our humanity - it is honour and reason. Race is our relation to Nature: how Nature is expressed, is manifest, in us. As such race is important and indeed vital; but so is honour. It is the combination of an acceptance of both race and honour which is National-Socialism. An affirmation of race without an affirmation honour is not National-Socialism, just as an affirmation of honour without an affirmation of race is not National-Socialism. It is this living, organic, dialectic of honour and race which defines National-Socialism itself... Our enemy is not some other race (or races) - and not even the Zionists. Our enemy is ourselves: our lack of understanding; our lack of honour; our lack of reason; our inability (often out of laziness) to change ourselves for the better by using our will. We cannot blame our problems on someone else, on some race or races, or even the Zionists. What is now, came to be as it came to be, through the workings of life, of Nature herself and if we desire to change what now is, we can and will if we strive in the right way - in accord with the truths, the wisdom of life itself. To achieve what we desire to achieve - to express our humanity, to work in harmony with Nature and so continue our evolution - we must achieve our own Triumph of the Will by striving to be honourable, by being loyal, and by striving to do our duty to Nature in an honourable way. It is as profoundly simple as that. (Esoteric Hitlerism: Idealism, the Third Reich and the Essence of National-Socialism. Posting on Usenet forum alt.politics.nationalism.white dated 6 July 2001.)

It was around this time that Myatt - still under Police investigation for conspiracy to murder - published his Personal Statement, which read: I wish to state that I have only done what I regard as my honourable duty. My published writings are full of references to honour and duty, as I myself have for many years striven to live by a Code of Honour. For over thirty years I have propagated the noble principles and honourable ideals I uphold and believe in, and whatever may be said, written or produced in evidence against me my own conscience is clear. I have no regrets whatsoever about anything I have said, written or done.

I believe in and accept that the freedom of every individual involves their right to freely give their allegiance. I believe and accept that the basis of true law and true justice is this free giving of allegiance together with the noble principle of personal honour, and that honour is thus the basis of what is fair and just. Hence, I regard any other type of so-called "law" and any and every type of so-called "justice" as dishonourable and a denial of freedom.

In view of these things, I am in rebellion against the Crown, the Government which derives its authority from the Crown, and any and every official appointed by the crown or who exercises their "authority" on behalf of the Crown.

The basis for my judgement on such matters as are mentioned herein is the document Freedom, Liberty and the Right of Rebellion.

He also published A Reply to Allegations, which contained the following:

Like many people, I myself in my youthful years - before I fully understood the ethics of National-Socialism - occasionally acted in an unethical way because I sometimes placed my own welfare, desires and needs before the good of my people.. There was, at the time, no one around to guide me - to tell me about the high standards which National-Socialism imposes upon the individual. I well remember in those years longing to find a real noble leader whom I could be loyal to. As it was, I made mistakes. But when I did re-discover the ethical standards which are the essence of National-Socialism I strove hard to change myself for the better by upholding these high standards of personal behaviour and personal conduct.

Myatt's Reichsfolk organization also issued - on May 10 2001 AD - The Reichsfolk Declaration, and, in December 2002 AD circulated a revised version of Our Current Situation regarding co-operation between National Socialists and Muslims. Thus, it seemed that, despite his conversion to Islam, he continued to support National Socialism, just as he strived to bring National Socialists and Muslims together to fight "their common enemy". Myatt himself has recently admitted as much:

I have, as a Muslim, striven for some years to bring various factions together to fight the menace of the mis-named New World Order - the Zionist-Crusader alliance - as I have striven to explain the honourable and perfect Way of Life which is Al-Islam to various people. My Letter to Nick Griffin was a public part of this action, by me, to counter the propaganda that is being directed at Islam, and to counter the prejudice that is rife concerning both Islam and Muslims. (A Reply From Abdul-Aziz)

    A Complex Man:

Almost all of the people who have written about Myatt - especially journalists - have concentrated on either his political views, or his alleged involvement with Occultism, or both of these. This, however, is a rather simplistic view, although not surprising considering that most of these people seem to have some kind of "political agenda" of their own.

It is a simplistic view because it ignores Myatt' s religious quest, his diverse interests, and his diverse creativity. This diversity is evident in his poetry, his personal correspondence, his translations and his works of literary fiction. Moreover, many of these works - and especially his poetry, letters, and literary works - reveal a very different Myatt. Consider, for instance, items such as Memories of Beautiful Things and People Can Be Cruel and poems such as One Exquisite Silence, In A Foreign Land, and Only Relate. These show another side of his character, a side, it seems unknown to or ignored by, those journalists and authors who have written about Myatt. In particular, his private, personal, correspondence reveal Myatt the Nature-loving poet, Gnostic and mystic. This is the man who insists we should "view all life, however small, as connected and feel in our very being an empathy with this life, using reason and a non-interventionist science to strive to understand this life, the world, the cosmos, and having always before us some simple rules, based upon honour, to guide us in our daily lives." (A Retrospective Part One: Beyond God, Toward Empathy.)

Myatt's idea of an acausal universe - explained in his essay Acausal Science: Life and The Nature of the Acausal - is also of interest, aiming as it does to extend the frontiers of science.

In addition, in his letters and scattered autobiographical writings, Myatt is honest enough to admit his views and understanding have changed, evolving as a result of his diverse experiences.

    Conclusion

Satanist? Or convert to Islam and active supporter of Islamic terrorism? Or life-long and fanatical National Socialist dedicated to creating a neo-nazi revolution by any means, including terrorism? Or possibly a modern Renaissance man - a Gnostic - questing in a Faustian manner after experience, meaning, understanding and that ultimate goal, wisdom? Or even a Nietzschean who as a result of a life of self overcoming and experiences has transcended beyond both Occultism and National Socialism to the modern morality evident in some of his writings about Cosmic Ethics?

In respect of Myatt's Islam, in December 2002 AD he circulated - and apparently translated from the Arabic - a Message from Mullah Muhammad Umar which includes the following remarks:

Even now America is preparing for another aggressive and oppressive war against the Iraqi people under the pretext of fighting terrorism. The whole world knows that this is a lie and that the truth is that it is America that is conducting and supporting terrorism. Yet it uses this lie as a pretext to take control of a people and to occupy their lands and rob them of their resources. While this is not surprising for the arrogant US - which is driven by a hate inspired Jewish cabal - it is surprising to see other countries joining with and supporting America, for they have long history of civilization, with some of them also having bad experiences with Muslims, and rather than learning from these, they are sinking deeper into error. An E-Mail Myatt sent to me, in August of last year, included a very interesting quote - interesting, considering Myatt's nazi past and conversion to Islam. The quote was from Usama bin Laden, taken from an interview bin Laden gave on May 28 1998: "We tell the Americans as a people, and we tell the mothers of soldiers - and American mothers in general - if they value their lives and those of their children, find a nationalistic government that will look after their interests, and not the interests of the Jews." Given sentiments such as these, expressed by such people as Mullah Umar and Usama bin Laden, Myatt's involvement with Islam should come as no surprise. Myatt - using one of his Muslim pseudonyms - was also fond of quoting Koranic verses such as: "In exchange for their lives and their goods, Allah has given those who believe Paradise. Thus will they fight in Allah's cause, and thus will they kill, and be killed." [9: 111] "Fight those of the disbelievers who are close to you, and let them find in you a harshness." [9:123]

The following statement - about National Socialism and Islam - were contained in an Addendum to a document, Our Moral Duty, issued by Reichsfolk in December of last year:

Do you see any conflict between Islam and supporting an alliance between National Socialists? No. I have a vision of the world in the not too distant future where there has been a nationalist or National-Socialist revolution in Amerika or a European country, and the emergence of a new Khilafah in a Muslim country. These two systems can and should co-operate together for their mutual advantage. In fact, one way of undermining the NWO, and thus the Zionist entity that occupies Palestine, is for there to be such a revolution in Amerika. Thus, to encourage such a revolution might be a good thing for Muslims to do.

    Islam:

Did Myatt ever really commit himself to Islam, and, if he did, has he really left Islam? Were some of his recent writings, missives, and activities, an attempt, by him, to divert attention from his Islamic activities? Is there yet another version of Myatt's life - an Islamic version, in addition to the "Occult" and Nazi versions mentioned above in Light and Sinister Peregrinations - waiting to be written?

In this Islamic version of his life, Myatt might well have sincerely converted to Islam, as his Islamic conversion writings, and several interviews, indicate. He then becomes a Muslim fundamentalist, and, some time later, undertakes a mission to aid those Muslims seeking to destroy, through Jihad and terrorism, the "New World Order". As he wrote using his Muslim name of Abdul Aziz:

A just war is being fought between those who represent what is good, noble and honourable, and those who represent what is evil, ignoble and dishonourable. In this war - as almost always - the unjust are know by their arrogance, their pride and their bullying nature. In this war - as almost always - the just are known by their honour, and by their noble behaviour, a behaviour which always results from observing the limits, from a knowledge that there is some power greater than themselves... Given this just war against an arrogant, insolent, tyrannical military power, what can we, as Muslims, do? The first thing we can do is support, in whatever way we can, the Mujahideen who are actively fighting the kuffar in places such as Afghanistan, Palestine, Chechnya, Kashmir and elsewhere... We can support them openly through our words, whether written or spoken. We can circulate, via any and all media, inspiring Jihad stories and news about Jihad. We can - if we are able and have the means, or assistance, to travel - support them by joining the Mujahideen on the battlefield. We can also - if we place our desire for Jannah and our love for our brothers and sisters before the life of this world - undertake our own individual acts of Jihad against the kuffar and their allies." ( The Just War ) Given Myatt's three year long presence on Usenet, and other forums, as a defender of Usama bin Laden, given his talks and lectures about Jihad, given his travels, as a Muslim, in Islamic countries(6), given the many Islamic articles he has written over the past five years, and given the translations of messages by Usama bin Laden, Mullah Umar and Saddam Hussein which he circulated, and has recently circulated, it is possible that his commitment to Islam was - and may be still is - sincere.

The correct, the Islamic, way to deal with the humiliation we have suffered and are suffering at the hands of the infidels - the correct way to deal with those who are killing and have killed our Muslim brothers and sisters and who have invaded our lands and supported those who oppress us - is Jihad. And by Jihad I mean fighting: for al-Jihaad is al-Qitaal. (Abdul Aziz: In Praise of Jihad)

I support Sheikh Usama bin Laden (hafidhahullah) because it is my understanding that he is acting according to Quran and Sunnah, and that in doing his duty, as a Muslim, he is obeying Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) alone. Everything that he does and says is motivated by his desire to do what is right, as judged by Quran and Sunnah. I support him because it is my understanding that he is a devout and humble Muslim, much given to remembering Allah (SWT). In truth, I support him - and applaud his actions - because he is an excellent example of all the virtues that a good Muslim should aspire to, as even a brief knowledge of his life will show. He has spent many, many years of life living simply, among the Mujahideen, fighting the kuffar, risking his life everyday. He has given up a life of luxury to do his Islamic duty. For over a year he and a few Mujahideen have outwitted the combined military might, and the money, of the kuffar.

Thus, it is my view that he is and should be an inspiration, an example, a role model, for Muslims, young and old. (Abdul Aziz: Why I Support Sheikh Usama bin Laden)

In an updated Addendum to a recent essay, Our Moral Duty - circulated by Reichsfolk - Myatt, usinng the name Abdul-Aziz Ibn Myatt, replies to the question Are you aligned with, or supporting, any Muslim organization? in the following way:

I support Sheikh Usama Bin Muhammad Bin Ladin but I am and was not aligned with any particular Muslim group, although some have indicated they would welcome me joining them. I did not join or publicly associate myself with a particular group because I do not wish them to be subject to the bad publicity they would probably receive were I to do so. Plus, my controversial views of striving for an alliance between Muslims and National-Socialists, my support of "holocaust denial" and my "revisionist view" of National-Socialism itself, are not part of the policy of such Muslim groups. By remaining independent, I could present such controversial views, from a Muslim perspective.

Myatt has also written many Islamic articles about what he calls the nobility and "warrior spirit" of Islam, and is particularly enthusiastic about Hamas, the Taliban, their leader, Mullah Umar, and Usama bin Laden. In this Islamic version of his life, Myatt may have used subterfuge, deception, and mis-information to divert attention from himself and his activities, and to possibly "confuse the enemy" and the authorities. I am reminded of the Code of Honour which he often quoted, in which it is stated:

"A man of honour may use guile or cunning to deceive his sworn enemies, and his sworn enemies only, provided always that he does not personally benefit from such guile or cunning and provided always that honour is satisfied." Myatt, some time ago, sent me an E-Mail which contained only the following:

Narrated Ka'b ibn Malik: When the Prophet (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) intended to go on an expedition, he always pretended to be going somewhere else, and he would say: War is deception. (Abu Dawud, 14, 2629) Is this a clue, or a deliberate misdirection? Thus, his protestations about having "committed himself to Folk Culture" and having "transcended conventional religions" may be just an attempt to divert attention. In other words, he is, once again but this time as a fanatical Muslim, working covertly in pursuit of his life-long goal of undermining and destroying "The System".

Is this Islamic version of his life the correct one?

We Shall Not Cease From Exploration...

Did Myatt really convert to Islam? Is his assertion of having "transcended conventional religions", and returned to the paganism of Folk Culture, correct? Has he really abandoned "politics and covert activity"? Is he still a National Socialist?

The people at the Searchlight organization have some things to say about Myatt:

"Myatt is an ethereal character. He is a dangerous man who has twice been jailed for his violent right-wing activities and who openly asked for blood to be spilled in the quest for white Aryan domination. We believe that despite his claims to be a devout Muslim he remains a deeply subversive intellectual and is still one of the most hardline Nazi intellectuals in Britain today. Myatt believes in the disruption of existing societies as a prelude to the creation of a new more warrior-like Aryan society which he calls the Galactic Empire." (Gerry Gable) "Myatt has a long history of involvement with Nazi activity and anti-semitism. The fact that he has converted to Islam and allied himself with its extremist fringe is in line with the opportunist politics that have seen him dabble in Buddhism and Chinese Taoism in the past." (Michael Whine, Chairman of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.)

Personally, it is my opinion that Myatt did not committed himself to Islam at all - that his alleged conversion to Islam was just that: alleged; a tactic he employed in his quest to subvert and overthrow what he calls The System. But it is possible that I am mistaken about Myatt's commitment to Islam. That is, he could be a fanatical Muslim using deception to aid his aims. He most certainly has said, and written, many complimentary, and personal, things about Islam and Muslims:

"If there is one English word which can usefully sum up the Way of Life which is Al-Islam it is honour. For Islam is a guide to how we - as individuals, as individuals in a family, and as individuals in a community - can live in a human way, according to those gifts, those qualities, which make us human and which distinguish we human beings from the other living beings on this planet of ours." (Islam - Way of the Honourable Warriors)

"As I write this I am once again in a Muslim land, surrounded by the sights and sounds that I love, among a people whose way of life and culture I respect and which I myself am now part of. Yesterday I sat on the edge of the desert under the shade of a Palm tree beneath a perfect blue sky as, not far away, in the small village, the sound of the Athan could be heard. So I went to pray, and there in that simple Mosque amid my brothers, I was reminded that one of the many remarkable things about Islam in this modern world is its numinosity: the beauty, the sacredness, the intimation of the divine, which manifests itself in daily life especially through daily prayer, the recitation of the Quran, a love of the Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and a remembrance of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala).

It is this sense of the numinous that the West has almost totally lost, just as it is this sense of the numinous that is one of the great strengths of Islam in the modern world. It is this numinosity which so greatly impressed me before my own conversion/reversion to Islam, and it is this numinosity that the kuffar are trying so hard to undermine and destroy with their evil desire to change Islam and have Muslims imitate the materialistic, dishonourable, arrogant ways of the West.

In the course of my varied life I have experienced many things, lived among many cultures - but one of the most beautiful and moving moments was while traveling in the desert, doing Salat on the hot sand while a burning Sun sweated me. It was so fitting, so perfect, so human, so simple to praise and submit to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) there, alone, in that place - to acknowledge His Prophet and to say His words. I was complete, whole, at peace, there for everything made sense in those moments of prayer - especially my own mortality. For there, there was only me, the vast desert, the Sun, and Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) and it was easy to suspend my prideful belief in my own abilities and my own knowledge. For there - and it might have been any century since the Message of the Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) - it was quite clear that life and death were a gift from Allah and Allah alone. There, at night, I lay looking at the sky, watching the shooting stars which every ten or twenty minutes, flashed across the sky, as our own mortal lives briefly traverse the horizon which is this Earth." (Abdul Aziz: A Question of Islam and the West)

"What I discovered about Islam - and what led me to convert to Islam - was the truth that Islam embodies honour. Islam provides a set of guidelines, a code of conduct, which guidelines and code of conduct - if followed - result in people living their life in a honourable, and thus a civilized, way.

What I found - and what at first astonished me - was that I felt more comfortable in the presence of Muslims than I did among my own people. Why? Because they were, or strived to be, honourable; because they possessed manners: attributes I knew from experience were often sadly lacking among my own people, and Westerners in general." ( Abdul-Aziz Ibn Myatt: Islam and the West: A Clash of Civilizations?)

Therefore, it is my own opinion, at this moment in time, that there are four plausible explanations about Myatt's present commitment and beliefs.

1) The first explanation is that his commitment to Islam was and still is sincere, and that he is - or seems to be - a fanatical Muslim intent on continuing, by means of supporting militant Islam and acts of Islamic terrorism, his life-long aim of destabilizing and overthrowing Western societies, with a view to replacing them with what he calls "noble, Islamic, societies - a Khilafah" so that this Khilafah, or Islamic Empire, can begin to create his vision of a Galactic Empire. It would seem, then, that he has found in Islam the noble warrior society he craves - as evident in his enthusiastic support for the Taliban, Hamas and other "warriors of Islam" such as Usama bin Laden. In this scenario, Myatt is, or has been, supporting Folk Culture, militant Islam and National Socialism at the same time as viable alternatives to the New World Order, believing as he does that the overthrow of existing societies is necessary, and that in this overthrow both militant Islam and revolutionary National Socialism are required. That is, he is engaged in both a practical, religious and ideological war against "the New World Order", his religious and ideological weapons being militant Islam, National Socialism and Folk Culture, while having spread mis-information about his Islamic intentions this past year in order to distract the attention of the authorities. He would not, I am sure, be above playing clever games with the British, and other, intelligence agencies who undoubtedly have him under surveillance. It is of interest that in June 2003 AD he issued a series of articles - which do seem to be written from a Muslim perspective - entitled "The National-Socialist Guide to Understanding Islam" in which he states:

[These are] a short series of brief guides designed to counter the Zionist propaganda about Islam which has been, and is being, poured forth in the Media, and which is used to justify the current war against Islam, and especially the war and terror being used against individuals and organizations - such as Sheikh Usama bin Laden and The Base of Jihad (Al-Qaeda) - who and which are actively seeking, through Jihad, to fight Zionism and those, such as the United States, who support and aid Zionism in the Middle East and elsewhere. If there is to be genuine and worthwhile co-operation between Muslims and peoples, such as National-Socialists, who accept a non-Muslim way of life and who are also fighting the dishonour which is Zionism, then it can only be on the basis of mutual respect and understanding, and the beginning of this respect and understanding is for us to understand Islam itself.

In addition, he - or someone close to him - has recently (February 2004 AD) updated his fundamentalist Islamic web-site to include not only a section on the Taliban - entitled The Taliban: Allah's Blessing on Afghanistan - but also more articles justifying "martyrdom operations".

It is possible that Myatt's support of, at the same time and in the past five years, Islam, Folk Culture and National Socialism - as part of his plan to attack, undermine, subvert and destroy "the New World Order and ZOG" - may have somewhat obscured his real intentions, particularly since one of his missions, during these years, was to bring radical Muslims and revolutionary National Socialists together. Thus, in attempting to appeal to National Socialists and other "White Nationalists", he may have attempted to hide, for whatever reason, his true Islamic agenda and his true, Muslim, beliefs. Or it could just be that this radical Islamic agenda of his - the creation of a Khilafah through Jihad (and the destruction of Israel) - became unintentionally obscured, that he has been merely writing propaganda in support of such things as Folk Culture and National Socialism, and that he is and remains a fanatical Muslim prepared to use whatever means - including terrorism and deception (against the "infidels", of course) - to further his cause and beliefs.

In his guise as Islamic fundamentalist, Myatt received a not entirely accurate mention at a UNESCO conference in Paris a few years ago which concerned the growth of anti-Semitism:

"David Myatt, the leading hardline Nazi intellectual in Britain since the 1960s and founder of the anti-Jewish and anti-Black terror group Combat 18, has converted to Islam, praises bin Laden and al Qaeda, calls the 9/11 attacks 'acts of heroism,' and urges the killing of Jews. Myatt, under the name Abdul Aziz Ibn Myatt supports suicide missions and urges young Muslims to take up Jihad. Observers warn that Myatt is a dangerous man..." More recently he was mentioned during a NATO conference: "The leader of the English neo-Nazi movement, David Myatt (now Abdul Aziz ibn Myatt) appeals to all enemies of the Zionists to embrace the Jihad, the 'true martial religion' which will most effectively fight against the Jews and the Americans." Ely Karmon, from a paper presented at the NATO Workshop On Terrorism and Communications - Countering the Terrorist Information Cycle, Slovakia, April 2005 AD

Furthermore, the French writer Alexandre Del Valle, author of several anti-Islamic books and texts, has this to say about Myatt:

The second plausible explanation is that he is a Nietzschean, seeking, like Nietzsche's Zarathustra, a self-overcoming - or, as he himself once expressed it in the terms of Savitri Devi in one of his letters (dated March 2002 AD) - "both above time and in time," relishing violent action-in-the-world, and the challenges and "stirring of the blood, the soul" that it brings, and also "finding a beauty, a contentment - for a while - in peaceful, numinous Nature, yet always returning, in some way, to the struggle because this struggle vitalizes." 3) The third plausible explanation is that he is what some of his critics have alleged for some time: a ruthless, dangerous, National Socialist, who has covertly and opportunistically used militant Islam, and thus Islamic terrorism, for his own neo-nazi ends, and who has developed a revisionist version of National Socialism to not only bring National Socialists and militant Muslims together against their "common enemy" but also to widen the appeal of National Socialism itself. Of his recent National Socialist writings he says:

I have evolved National-Socialism by returning to the essence and then developing a coherent ethical, numinous, philosophical and rational system, as is evident, for example, in my recent essay The Theology of National-Socialism and in the recently revised version (114yf) of The Meaning of National-Socialism. (In Pursuit of the Numinous) One of his most recent (December 2003 AD) National Socialist essays contains the following assertion regarding his admiration for National Socialism:

"Why do I admire - why have I steadfastly admired, for thirty-five years - National-Socialist Germany? Because I found, and find, in it an intimation of beauty - a desire to bring beauty, joy, back into the lives of ordinary people; a desire to raise them up from the ugly. And what was wonderful, inspiring, remarkable was that this was done within the confines, within the constraints, of a modern nation with its cities, towns, industries: and that it involved all of the people, not a minority, not an elite. National-Socialism was a means whereby the beautiful could be felt and known - a means whereby beauty was once again presenced in the lives of ordinary people. A means whereby a connexion was made to those things which can and do elevate and evolve us, and which thus create an inner beauty. This is the simple, profound, beautiful message of National-Socialism." (One Insight: Honour and Beauty)

As a dedicated National Socialist, of "over thirty-five years" standing, Myatt may well have developed his Folk Culture, which he is now calling The Numinous Way, as one more means of attracting people - especially young people - to National Socialism. This might also apply - as some people believe - to the ONA itself. That is, the ONA was, and is, a creation by Myatt designed to attract people to National Socialism and to propagate National Socialism.

In this National Socialist scenario, Myatt may well have written propaganda in support of Islam, using his Muslim persona to spread this among Muslims, all the while remaining a fanatical National Socialist prepared to use whatever means - including terrorism and deception - to further his cause and beliefs.

Interestingly, Myatt's Reichsfolk organization has recently (May 2004 AD) issued several new articles and items by or about Myatt, in one of which - entitled The Return of the Warrior - Myatt yet again affirms his commitment to the tactics of armed struggle:

"There is still a pressing need for practical action on all levels. I still believe that one way forward, for us, is to create small covert groups dedicated to undermining The System by practical means - through, for example, targeting the infrastructure of society, as was explained in various items which are still in clandestine circulation... It is the infrastructure that should be targeted, along with specific individual targets who are known enemies and/or public figures and whose removal would be beneficial, either directly or because their demise would be welcomed by our Movement."

4) The fourth plausible explanation is that he is a Satanic Grand Master "aiding the sinister dialectic" as part of some diabolic plan to disrupt society in whatever way he can, and that he has used and encouraged, for these sinister ends, political and religious fanaticism, violence and terrorism. He has also propagated, and created, many subversive ideas and ideologies, including that of the Order of Nine Angles.

Which - if any - of these five explanations are correct? A man driven by a Faustian desire to strive for both beauty and action, for both - as Mishima wrote - Sun and Steel? Or ruthless neo-nazi intent on creating the foundations for some new warrior society and a future "Galactic Empire"? Fanatical Muslim, sometimes using deception against "the enemy"? Or a sinister Occult Grand Master - an Adept of the Left hand Path - who, as I mentioned in my Myatt: A Sinister Life, has not only undertaken an Occult quest but who has also transformed, indeed revolutionized, The Left hand Path, making it a practical, although dangerous, way to what its adherents call "enlightenment and true freedom, and a means to create a new type of human being". (8)

I could, of course, be wrong in believing there are only four plausible explanations. He might be - or have been - all these different things, exploring the possibilities of human life itself. He might even surprise us all by undertaking some new voyage of Promethean discovery. He might quite simply be a Trickster at work, and perhaps at play. Four things, however, do seem certain. One, Myatt does appear - as one person writing about him described it - to have a remarkable ability "to morph himself" in various ways. Two, he is still inciting, through terrorism, the overthrow of governments. Three, he is most certainly a deeply subversive intellectual. Four, he is an interesting, and complex, man.

One thing does, however, seem clearer this past year - and especially during the last few months. This is Myatt's unwavering admiration for Islam, or, more specifically, what he calls "the authentic Islam of the Jihadi movements". In several articles, published and unpublished, and in many private communications, Myatt again and again contrasts the "decadence and dishonour" of the modern West with the "numinous, the beautiful" simplicity and honor of Islam. If we assume for the sake of argument that Myatt's conversion to Islam was genuine, then it may well be that, over the past few years, Myatt, for whatever reason, drifted away from Islam, only to be drawn back to it once again(10). This would explain many things, and in particular the recent re-appearance of his "Abdul-Aziz Ibn Myatt Islam Conversion web-site" and his revision of the second part of his Autobiographical Notes.

Appended to his revision of the second part of his Autobiographical Notes is the following quote, from the sayings of Muhammad:

"There is no believing servant except that he has a sin which he commits from time to time, or a sin in which he persists in and does not abandon until he leaves this world. Indeed the Believer was created as one who is frequently tried and tested, who often repents (then) forgets. When he is admonished he accepts the admonition." Reported by at-Tabaraanee in al-Mu'jamul Kabeer (no. 11,810); hasan.

This may, or may not, be significant. But, yet again, this is only one possible explanation, among many. Or more more deception. For all this might be the sinister Grand Master at work, laughing at us, and the world, while he plays his games of sinister change. Or is this really - as several others have expressed it - Myatt, the sinister Avatar, at work, and play, effecting "change in the collective unconscious..."? Or a cynical terrorist and master propagandist intent on causing chaos to further his cause, be that cause Islam, or National Socialism? Or is this really and truly a man changing, evolving, edging closer to wisdom because of a life-long practical quest?

The Machinations of Journalists:

Myatt has been mentioned in several books, and newspapers articles, as well as in the anti-fascist magazine Searchlight. Many journalists have repeated the allegations made against him by Searchlight - that he is a Satanist, and founded and leads the Order of Nine Angles. Several years ago, the people at Searchlight were consistent in describing Myatt as a "dangerous man", a "fanatical neo-nazi". For example, Gerry Gable, of Searchlight, was quote in the Sunday Mercury (Birmingham, England) on 9 July 2000 AD as saying:

"Myatt is an ethereal character. He is a dangerous man who has twice been jailed for his violent right-wing activities and who openly asked for blood to be spilled in the quest for white Aryan domination. We believe that despite his claims to be a devout Muslim he remains a deeply subversive intellectual and is still one of the most hardline Nazi intellectuals in Britain today. Myatt believes in the disruption of existing societies as a prelude to the creation of a new more warrior-like Aryan society which he calls the Galactic Empire."

It seems that many journalists reproduce the opinions of Searchlight regarding Myatt without doing any research for themselves or without taking the trouble to ask for Myatt's side of the story. Thus, they reproduce the claims about involvement with Satanism - and sometimes embellish them, as some journalists do, in a sensational way - without mentioning the repeated denials Myatt has made over the decades. Indeed, Myatt has challenged Searchlight, and several others journalists, to provide any evidence of their assumptions and accusations, which they have singularly failed to do - and he has even taken the radical step of challenging two journalists (Nick Ryan and Nick Lowles) to a duel with deadly weapons. According to Myatt:

"I challenged these individuals to a duel with deadly weapons, according to the etiquette of duelling, because of the dishonourable accusations they made against me in books and articles written by them and because of the rumours they had spread about me. I sent them a personal challenge, and also made my challenge public. I did this because I believe in the concept of personal honour - thus, this is the honourable thing to do when such accusations are made. I do not regard the so-called "Courts of Law" in this or any Western land as honourable or as allowing for personal honour, and therefore cannot in all honour have recourse to them in such matters...

Both of these individuals refused my challenge and thus I considered my honour vindicated, in public just as I considered that by refusing this challenge they have shown themselves to be dishonourable and cowardly. Accordingly, whatever they have written about me can be dismissed - it is the product of dishonourable cowards. Furthermore, anyone of any honour has a duty to dismiss the writings, the rumours, the ramblings, the opinions, of such people..." (11)

It is interesting that Searchlight now seems to have changed its tactics in respect of Myatt, attempting to dismiss him as a self-publicist. Thus, according to the opinion of Gerry Gable:

Myatt is a self-publicist who has claimed to have taken up many guises, including being a monk. Satanism is probably his overriding inspiration. He still supports neo-Nazi groups and contributes to their websites.

Some journalists have even gone so far as to claim that Myatt has a "delusional fantasy life." I, however, am quite certain that Myatt is now laughing at these recent journalistic machinations.

The Sinister Influence of David Myatt:

Myatt certainly has achieved a great influence over the past two decades, and this seems to belie the journalistsic claims of him being some kind of self-publicist who has a "delusional fantasy life" .It is quite obvious that Myatt's influence extends into many realms including National Socialism, paganism (or "heathenism" as many of its proponents write), Black Metal music, Occultism (especially Satanism(12)), and Islam. Myatt - in one or more of his diverse personas - has influenced many individuals and groups. For instance, of his Combat 18 days a journalist wrote:

"[Myatt was the] mentor of the nail-bomber David Copeland. As former leader of the NSM David Myatt is the man who shaped the minds of at least 80 young men like Copeland, who was convicted of three nail bomb attacks in Brixton, Brick Lane and Soho in which three people died and over a hundred were injured. Myatt has been at the fore-front of extreme right-wing activity in Britain since the 1960s..." Myatt has certainly changed the lives of hundreds of individuals, often quite dramatically, through his writings, his quest, and his example. Myatt's influence is keenly felt within the world of radical "Right-Wing" and National Socialist politics. It is generally acknowledged, even by his enemies, that Myatt's political and religious writings about National Socialism have been, and are, very influential. They have been translated into Swedish, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Norwegian, Polish, Finnish, Serbo-Croat, and other languages. Indeed, some people involved in the Right-Wing "movement" regard Myatt as the foremost writer for the cause of "white nationalism."

"It is my view that David Myatt is the most important thinker, and writer, for our Cause - for both National Socialism, and "White Nationalism" in general. His Cosmic Vision, his ethic of honour, his evolution of National Socialism, his clear and unequalled exposition of our Aryan values and Aryan Way of Life, and his The Numinous Way of Folk Culture, are in my view of vital importance for our people, our culture, our future. He has explained, in a rational way - using his concept of the acausal - the nature of the folk, and of folk homelands, as he has written at great length about the need for a practical revolution to create the free and Aryan societies we need. He has also written several practical guides to how such a revolution can be achieved. In addition, he has posited a new, ethical, rational, and evolutionary "religion" (or more correctly, a Way of Life) based on his concept of The Cosmic Being. The sheer depth and breadth of Myatt's work inspires admiration, for this work has been both theoretical, and practical." (The Radical Genius of David Myatt)

However, some people within this world of the radical "Right-Wing" regard Myatt as a traitor for his defence of, and involvement with, Islam.

In the strange milieu of Black Metal music, and avant-garde electronic music, individuals and bands from across Europe, Russia and America play and record music inspired by the ONA's sinister philosophy, with the "cover notes" for their CD's - and their lyrics - often containing quotes from ONA literature.

In the world of Islam, Myatt continues to cause controversy. His Islamic writings are posted and re-posted on Islamic forums and web-sites by those Muslims who support the fundamentalist views he is presenting, while some moderate Muslims - and Zionists - seem intent on countering his eloquent arguments in favor of such things as "suicide attacks", and his praise for Usama bin Laden, by Argumentum ad hominem, especially by pushing their opinion that he is merely using Islam for his own secret, and subversive, agenda. One of his articles - written under the name of Abdul Aziz and entitled Are Martyrdom Operations Lawful According to Quran and Sunnah? - is considered by many to be one of the most eloquent and detailed defenses, in the English language, of "suicide attacks". In addition, he has written several scholarly articles - such as The Knowledge of Islam - in which he attempts to define and explain the difference between "genuine Islam" and the "ways of the kuffar" (infidels).

But perhaps Myatt's greatest influence, at least to date, is within the world of Satanism, and "The Left Hand Path" in general. The ONA - which many people have assumed Myatt created (or at least inherited) and leads - has profoundly changed, with its rational, practical approach, and its concept of Internal and Aeonic Magick, the perception of Satanism and the Left Hand Path, and its influence is now world-wide. At the time of writing (July 2005 AD) the ONA is especially flourishing in Russia and America, and has groups, and individuals associated with it, in Canada, Europe, Russia, America, Australia, and New Zealand. It is estimated that many thousands of people - especially young people - have been and are being influenced by the ideas of the ONA.

The following quotes about Myatt - culled from the Internet over the past two years - are typical:

"I'm sure you've heard of other cases of "infiltrators" who external observers can't figure out what their aim is. David Myatt in Britain is famous for that--the "neo-Nazi" who set up a "Satanist" group known as the Order of Nine Angles, which espouses anti-NWO and racialist doctrines. Then he left all that behind and converted to Islam and praises bin Laden. Some say he really means it and is now a true Muslim. Others say this is all part of his right-wing, anti-NWO strategy. And yet others still claim that both Myatt's "neo-Nazi" incarnation as well as his Muslim incarnation are "insight roles" that help him probe the limits of darkness in the human experience as a Satanist. So which of the three is he really? Who knows?" "Myatt is indeed a difficult one to fathom..."

"Is he [Myatt] not in large part a legendary figure, or, dare I say it, even a Christ figure to the believers who still require such things?"

"...I mention this as someone posted about Myatt being a Christ figure like it was detrimental. If only Myatt was the Christ of Christianity! We would have some interesting Christians if they worshipped and strove to emulate his person!"

"Lavey was a manipulator no doubt, and he did move many away from Christianity, but the darkness is lacking, Lavey himself can top Myatt in no way from what I read of them both. Lets see - circus trainer, photographer, and producer of a BS satanic group, vs the creator of the Sevenfold path, star-game, political evil genius, man of many roles and faces, who continues to this day to push the evolutionary limits and tread unknown territory. Lavey fooled no one, he was easy to read, showed his cards, and is know for what he was. Myatt still has the bored trying to figure out who he was, and probably will for some time." (From a debate comparing La Vey and Myatt.)

"I genuinely like Myatt. I see him in the same mold as Manson: a prophet of the Kali Yuga; a nihilistic visionary -- but with a grander vision than Manson's, and far more ruthless, fanatical and determined to see it come to fruition..."

"Comparisons have been made between Myatt and Manson, and while I agree the two are similar, for me Myatt is superior in his reasoning, in his insight, his deeds, and in his aims which are genuinely cosmically sinister. Also, Manson got caught, while Myatt didn't and hasn't - which is a great plus...Furthermore, I think Myatt, through his ONA, and his other stuff, has achieved a greater influence than Manson."

"I feel that Myatt designed this quasi-occult system in order to draw certain kinds of strong-Willed individuals to The Cause, much the same as W[hite] P[ower] music has greatly bolstered the ranks over the years. Myatt has been a "do-er" instead of a talker, and I believe he intends to get the job done by whatever means at his disposal. His gift is not so much his profound thinking (although some of his output is [that] indeed) but rather the emotional quality of his words, and the explosive personalities he is breeding."

"David Myatt... has taken many forms, and I will give no further introduction to this man of changes, I will leave the judgment to you, the judgment of a man with visions and dreams, the judgment of a man that acted according to his will, and manifested his words in action, a man of progress. One of the few truly interesting men alive today, and one of the few who has a vision of the change needed to bring this world back on it's feet... Many things can be said about Mr. Myatt, but one thing is for sure, he is an utterly interesting and fascinating man."

"David Myatt... all-round dissident and anti-establishment activist, whose life and writings challenge our preconceptions and todays' political correctness."

"We found this Gnostic activist and thinker, poet, classicist, philosopher, metaphysician and 'Gentleman of the Road' amongst many other things, to be one of the best image of a true Gnostic available in our dismal time. Here is a truly noble soul on the Path, revealing himself with total honesty to his readers. A gentle soul, struggling with material evil and mankind's slave mentality which sometimes even lead him into the ugly realm of violence and hatred. An a-typical National Socialist, he is also a-typical in all his spiritual pursuits. Indeed, his compassion for the suffering of mankind and his own self-understanding has excluded racism and even 'racialism' from his ideas of National Socialism. He is nothing less than a great soul, a true Gnostic, struggling for nobility, Knowledge and Liberation in a three dimensional world. His daring spirit has already explored dimensions of thought far beyond the realm set by the 'Aeons' as limits to man..."

"Myatt is a prophet. He is also a poet and a philosopher... He is a great man and a guru."

"Here is a chance to read some of Myatt's lust[ful], passionate, loving, personal, wonderful and sometimes sad poetry written during the years. One could easily fall in love with both [the] words, and feelings displayed in David Myatt's poetry, and not surprisingly a substantial key to actually understanding what and why David Myatt is what he is, lies as far as I see it, in these poems. Reading some of his poems, one comes quite aware of that there are a highly loving and emotionally aware man hidden below all of the political and religious extremism that he is perhaps most wellknown for."

"This Man is an Avatar of authentic experience, a man of inconceivable integrity and nobility; A Man who has donned many guises and philosophical and metaphysical systems and political theories, to effect change in the collective unconscious and the world. He has never given up or sold out to "The System." He has been in prison, lived on the margins, and considered by many lesser men as being of no account. But yet they cannot ignore him. His power, majesty, and influence interweaves through a thousand unseen threads of causation and interrelation, generating powerful effects in myriads of realms; of thought, discourse, and collective and individual affect, as well as in the collective mind. In my view, this is no mean feat. Even in areas where you may not agree, there is no doubt that David Myatt is a truly superior man, with a core of immutable Spirit that can change and morph into many different roles and forms, in the same way that Buddhas can take on the "many forms and modes to effect liberation from Samsara." This Man is a god in human flesh, and a highly complex entity. His theory of "Cosmic Ethics" could literally save the world..."

"What I find interesting - not to say fascinating - about Myatt's life is how people react to it. It certainly shows up the prejudices, the lack of reasoning and the lack of insight in many people.

Many if not the majority of people generally react to the outward appearance of Myatt's life - or they just repeat the rumours, the allegations, about the man made by those opposed to his assumed views. Others just try and fit him into some category, or other. That may give them the illusion, a manufactured sense, of understanding. Myatt's life can make us feel uncomfortable, unsure - and it's just too simple a solution to repeat or believe what others repeat or believe about him.

Hence, I am inclined to see Myatt's life and works as a finely crafted work of Art - a challenge, not to say test for the unwary, and a means for us to move beyond outward appearances to the essence. We are challenged by Myatt's life, as a good work of Art challenges us to delve beyond the surface into meanings. I, personally, am sure that this is part of Myatt's own intention."

"The White Supremists don't have the numbers. But they are also not all kooks. People like Myatt knew the Nazi organization didn't have the numbers. The Muslims do. One of the most articulate and prolific writers for the white supremist AND a convert to ISLAM accepted as a SCHOLAR is: Abdul Aziz, aka David Myatt... He is one of their most articulate and prolific contributers to recruiting and encouraging the Jihad."

"David Myatt is primarily a genius. An individual thinking beyond the opposites, beyond good and evil; And is an inspiration for all of us..."

    Concluding Remarks:

I have presented, on this Web-Site, a selection of diverse material by Myatt himself, thus enabling people to consider his life and views for themselves. They may find some of this material contradictory. Some of it, most certainly, is controversial. As I wrote in David Myatt, A Sinister Life:

"The final conclusion as to Myatt's intentions and nature, at this moment in time, can only realistically be that each one of us will have to draw our own conclusions based on what little we know and - more interestingly - on what we assume or believe. Our conclusion may say more about us, and our society, than it might say about Myatt himself." But irrespective of all his alleged, or real, machinations, and the disinformation and assumptions of his enemies, Myatt's life is varied, complex, and interesting, and the term Faustian does seem appropriate to describe his many, and diverse, peregrinations, adventures and involvements. From all his peregrinations, adventures and involvements, he has distilled some beautiful, some haunting, some pagan, some sad, some romantic, some martial - and many unusual - poems, and if he is to be remembered, it will hopefully be for this poetry (and possibly his Greek translations) rather than for his political and religious exploits or his political and philosophical writings.

Notes on Myatt and his Poetry

(1) Nick Ryan, Homeland: Into A World of Hate (Mainstream, 2003 AD)

(2) According to one source: "The persons involved in the secret armed cells conspiracy included George Kennedy Young, the ex-deputy director of the British intelligence service MI6... Ex-spymaster Young was for many years a key link man between the extreme-right of the Conservative Party and some of Britain's most dangerous and violent neo-nazis. The vehicle for this liaison, which included contact with individuals connected with the underground fascist elite paramilitary organisation, Column 88, was his own pressure group called Tory Action. David Muire, another former intelligence officer, was using British Movement members as couriers for British Intelligence..."

(3). Myatt's acausal is explained in his essay Acausal Science . For the ONA use of this acausal idea, see, for example, the ONA book entitled "Naos: A Practical Guide to Becoming an Adept" and the ONA essay "Aeonic Magick: A Basic Introduction" by Anton Long, dated 1994 eh.

(4) I have outlined the arguments for and against Myatt being associated with Satanism and the ONA in my Myatt: A Sinister Life?

(5) See the letters of his which I have collected in mystic.zip

(6) See, for example, his article Reflections on Islamic Travels, in which he recalls one incident: "So the conversation among us then turned to Jihad and there was a strong resentment among the Muslims gathered in that room directed at their own government for bowing down before Amerika and doing nothing to aid our brothers and sisters being humiliated by the kuffar. Every Amerikan killed in kuffar-occupied land was the cause of celebration among us - with a prayer of thanks being offered to Allah (SWT)."

(7) See (5) above, and especially This Field, and We Have Been Led Astray.

(8) This particular Occult explanation - as I wrote in my Myatt: A Sinister Life? - is the explanation which I myself find most convincing. However, as I mention in that article, I do believe Myatt is sincere about his National Socialist beliefs.

(9) Although these articles give no indication of when and where these conversations with Myatt took place, it seems reasonable to assume they are of recent date.

(10) If we assume his conversion to Islam was genuine, it might well be that Myatt never ceased to be a Muslim, which involves only believing in the one God, Allah, and the belief that Muhammad was the Prophet of God. But he might have veered away from being a devout Muslim for a while. However, I personally find this explanation most unlikely, for one has only to read the many articles Myatt has written in the past three years - such as In Pursuit of the Numinous, The War Against the Numen, and especially The Return of the Warrior - to appreciate his unwavering commitment to what he calls "the folkish ideals underlying National-Socialism".

(12) An interesting and recent - if not entirely accurate - analysis of some parts of Myatt's Satanic influence is contained in the essay De mystieke vrienden van een spritueel blad by Pieter Zoomers, August 2003 AD. For an examination of the ONA belief in human sacrifice, see Anthropoetics (The Journal of Generative Anthropology) Volume IX, number 2 (Fall 2003/Winter 2004).
