Abby
and Kristen February 2008.
The
Beginning

Kristen found Abby in 1998 while driving through a ghetto street in Savannah.
Abby was the size of a rat and ridden with mange. Her tail had been
hacked off and she was barely alive.
Donna and I lived at that time at a place called "Abercorn Terrace" and we
had just returned from Tybee beach, when we saw Kristen sitting on our steps
holding a box. I remember saying to Donna: "Oh God, I hope she doesn't have
a puppy or cat in that box".
Well, she had this little bundle of life as seen in the picture above...
She had named her Abigail and since she was going to college and living with us,
I was the one who spent most of her early days with her and my beloved dog
Barky.
Abby was always hungry and we had to make sure that she didn't gulp all of
her food down at once...and then throw it all up again.
She was so frail and could hardly walk. In fact she kind of stalked, with very
insecure steps, ... sideways.
Slowly she learned to walk in a normal manner as I taught her to do
through coaxing and lifting her by the leash... which was a cat's leash, because
even the smallest dog-leashes didn't fit her.
Abby and I, her "grandpa", fell in love with each other in no time and we had
a very close bond with each other until she left us to return to the other side
via the Rainbow Bridge......
I
SHALL LOVE ABBY FOREVER!
Thus, upon her leaving us from this miserable earth-plane,
I feel the need to tell her life story through some of the
pictures on this page. It is the story of countless dogs and people
and the incredible bond that exists between them.
It is also a reminder of human cruelty towards animals which is beyond
description
and even more so a reflection on the fact that people and animals are all God's
children.
Dogs especially can teach us so much if only we are open and willing to
understand...
-as we "grow up" together and learn from each other...
-But if you read this far, you know that already.
