people. For one thing, you know almost
automatically that a religious person won’t kill you on the spot,
because implicit in any meeting between two religious people is the
idea that they owe their very natures to the same boss, and
consequently are automatically working together. This is exactly how
religion finally became popular in the first place, after centuries of
brutal coercion. It’s a great way to avert conflict, at least
initially. And simple fellowship is the best part of it.
...I love talking to religious people because they paint their tableaux
right across the sky. They tell you what they believe, and how happy
it makes them. They all communicate a very detailed knowledge of what
is happening to the world, each version colored by the spiritual
tradition through which their empirical knowledge is filtered. But in
the process of evangelizing, they all evince a shaky uncertainty that
they must convince you of their rightness of their world view as if
their total mental health depended on it.

Dostoyevsky was born on November 11, 1821. In commemoration of his birthday,
we are reprinting the following essay by William Pierce from National
Vanguard.
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821–1881) was one of
Russia’s greatest writers. The son of a physician of modest means,
he had the opportunity for an education, and was trained as an engineer. He
remained close to the common people
of Russia, however, in the experiences of his life and in his writing.
Dostoyevsky was a fervent patriot, but his association with a circle of
radical writers led to his arrest at the age of 27.
He was subsequently sentenced to death, reprieved at the last minute, and
transported to Siberia, where he spent
four years in a prison labor camp. This was followed by several years as a
private in a Siberian unit in the Russian army.
After his return from Siberia, Dostoyevsky wrote a number of novels,
including
Crime and Punishment

(1866),
The Idiot [3]
(1868),

enjoyed immense popularity. It was his

The curious Book of
Esther, one of only two in the Bible not mentioning God,
may have been composed BCE485-464 during the reign of King Ahasueris,
roughly concurrent with the reign of Xerxes I in Persia. The names certainly are
similar.
Many scholars dispute its provenance and authenticity of Esther. Only the first
part
is found in the Greek Septuagint scriptures, and it is the only book of the
Tennakh
not found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. Because of discrepancies in Hebrew texts,
St. Jerome divided it into the older and newer parts when he organized his Latin
Vulgate Bible in the late fourth century CE. Notably, the first time the word
Jew (Judean)
is used in the Bible, rather than Hebrew or Israelite, is in Esther. Set in
Persia,
the story incorporates key elements of Persian paganism.
Fertility rites always occur in spring, and so does Purim. This is set on 14
Adar.
Because the Hebrew calendar is lunar, this falls in March.
Not to digress, but demonstrating the strong Judeo-Persian cultural confluence,
the names of the Hebrew months are Babylonian. Purim may be a Judaized
recreation
of an ancient springtime gala celebrating the victories of the gods Marduk and
Ishtar
over rival deities. This and other Near Eastern pagan themes made pretty good
background material for concocting this very Jewish, very Talmudic fairytale...

Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821–1881) was one of
Russia’s greatest writers. The son of a physician of modest means,
he had the opportunity for an education, and was trained as an engineer. He
remained close to the common people

Dostoyevsky was a fervent patriot, but his association with a circle of
radical writers led to his arrest at the age of 27.
He was subsequently sentenced to death, reprieved at the last minute, and
transported to Siberia, where he spent
four years in a prison labor camp. This was followed by several years as a
private in a Siberian unit in the Russian army.
After his return from Siberia, Dostoyevsky wrote a number of novels,

...So here where we are -- knowing, but scattered as atoms
and unable to spread the truth beyond our little circle --
even though we suspect that there are many isolated circles
like ours, not communicating with ours although receiving
some of the same signals (as from websites like this Rense
and Global Research or many blogs -- islands of understanding,
swapping notes, but unable to organize or generate political
(local meetings, projected mass demonstration of public opinion
demanding specific corrections and everyone afraid of reprisals
at work or socially or by organized crime methods....

We will make no progress against the corrupt money power
and its propaganda machinery until we gather in crowds
and are addressed by people who can give present our own
thinking to us clearly so that we may unite in understanding
and purpose. Internet activism and small private discussions
are never going to do the job.
