Are powerful groups manipulating events as part of a long-range strategy to bring about a totally controlled global society? Does recognition of conspiracies lead to paranoia and delusion? Or does it actually explain events and thereby empower people?
It is not the purpose of this short article to examine the range of crimes, cabals and secret plots broadly covered by the word conspiracy. Nor do we intend to prove the existence of some international conspiracy at work in the crisis torn world of the 90s. What we want to touch on is the implications of conspiracy theories for personal transformation. What we want to explore here is a different way of seeing the world.
First let us define the meaning of that seemingly disturbing word: "conspiracy". Webster's International dictionary gives, as one connotation, "a combination of men for an evil purpose; a plot". The Oxford Dictionary of English agrees, defining conspiracy as "a combination of persons for an evil or unlawful purpose; an agreement between two or more to do something criminal, illegal or reprehensible; a plot".
If, as a significant number of researchers claim, it can be shown that influential - largely hidden - elites have knowingly combined their efforts in a plot(s) to manipulate and control people and events, then on the basis of the standard definition just cited, a conspiracy does indeed exist.
Readers who are accustomed (or is it conditioned?) to automatically regard any mention of conspiracy as irrational paranoia, will find this very subject a 'problem'.
Jonathon Vankin, the author of two excellent books exploring a host of conspiracy theories, observes that, "The word 'conspiracy' may be a 'problem' for some, but only because it represents the unknown, mystery, and risk. Those are the things that grip the human mind and bring it to life. These ideas can only be a problem for those who wish to keep our minds under control."
Last century the British politician, Benjamin Disraeli, a man of wide political experience, declared that "the world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes." This century U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt has been quoted as saying: "In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, it was planned that way."
"Ruling elites will use conspiracy," states political scientist and activist Dr. Michael Parenti. "They will finance elections, publicity campaigns, publishing houses, wire services, and academic studies. They will use surveillance, mobsters, terrorists, assassins and death squads."
Conspiracy researchers 'look behind the dark curtain' that shrouds history and the sacrosanct assumptions reinforcing contemporary society.
There really are, as investigative author Jim Hougan says, two kinds of history, the safe, sanitized "'Disney version,' so widely available as to be unavoidable...and a second one that remains secret, buried, and unnamed."
This "second" version of history, Jonathon Vankin and John Whalen argue, does indeed have a name: "conspiracy theory." According to the co-authors of 50 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time the official, safe "Disney" version of history "could just as easily be called the 'New York Times version' or the 'TV news version' or the 'college textbook version.' The main resistance to conspiracy theories comes not from people on the street, but from the media, academia, and government - people who manage the national and global economy of information."
The structure of the modern world demands mass adherence to faith in the institutions that maintain the existing order and make it run. These institutions are innumerable: government, business, science, education, politics...and their survival is dependent on people's faith in authority.
"We have to believe the institutions are functioning in our best interests," wrote Vankin in his 1991 ground-breaking book Conspiracies, Cover-Ups and Crimes. "We have to believe what the people within those institutions assure us to be true."
This is why 'conspiracy theories' are universally anathema to the Establishment. They directly challenge the status quo, undermining the blind faith of the 'brainwashed' masses in society's machiavellian 'leaders'!
Vankin quotes anthropologist Jules Henry as saying that "our civilization is a tissue of contradictions and lies." Henry used the term "sham" for the everyday deceptions that reinforce this malignant society. "Sham gives rise to coalitions because usually sham cannot be maintained without confederates." In other words, to keep the system afloat requires a conspiracy. "In sham," Henry continues, "the deceiver enters into an inner conspiracy against himself."
Acknowledging the conspiracies and cover-ups behind history and contemporary events means we can no longer lie to ourselves, like Colin Wilson's "Outsider" who "cannot live in the comfortable insulated world of the bourgeois, accepting what he sees and touches as reality."
Modern civilization is a conspiracy against Reality.
R.D. Laing explains in The Politics of Experience how people are 'conditioned' and 'brainwashed' by modern society. Beginning with the children, Laing says, "It is imperative to catch them in time. Without the most thorough and rapid brainwashing their dirty minds would see through our dirty tricks. Children are not yet fools, but we shall turn them into imbeciles like ourselves, with high IQs if possible.
"From the moment of birth, when the Stone Age baby confronts the Twentieth century mother, the baby is subjected to these forces of violence, called love, as its mother and father, and their parents and their parents before them, have been. These forces are mainly concerned with destroying most of its potentialities, and on the whole this enterprise is successful. By the time the new human being is fifteen or so, we are left with a being like ourselves, a half-crazed creature more or less adjusted to a mad world. This is normality in our present age."
In our conditioned environment we accept what we are told, largely without question. Society, or more precisely the ruling elites, define reality.
Central to every conspiracy is the suppression of specific information or the deliberate avoidance of certain key facts. Control of information is a mechanism of social control. If information is used by the ruling elites to programme and mentally enslave people, then information can be used to deprogramme and liberate them. Knowledge is the key to freedom.
According to the Sufis, the potential for clear, direct perception in man in his everyday life is largely frustrated by a distorting complex of socio-psychological conditioning factors. Often these appear in the seemingly innocuous forms of unfounded assumptions and expectations. Consequently man is ready mental putty in the hands of powerful manipulators. Conspiracies are detected only by the exercise of unfettered perception and thinking. Thus, conspirators must propagate a necessary level of confusion in those whom they seek to deceive and control.
The mere realization of the existence and activities of various 'conspiracies' orchestrated by powerful ruling elites, has a largely liberating effect on a thinking individual, disclosing to him as it does the vast magnitude of the lies and deception incorporated in the various layers of official culture. The whole social structure, educational structure, economic and political structures are directly challenged.
Once a person realizes that there is a 'hidden history' behind our so-called history, they invariably start to want to break away from the futile human pattern of seeing reality as it is not and thereby living a lie. They want to abandon the anesthetic of ignorance and suppression within which man cocoons himself and to embrace the intensity of reality - as it is.
Conspiracies and cover-ups do exist. However, their underlying root cause is our own irresponsibility, ignorance and inactivity. The world tells us what we want to hear, giving us justifications for different states of irresponsibility. Civilization may well be destroying itself, but individuals don't have to destroy themselves with it.
The modern world with its phobias, neurosis, contradictions and conflicts, is what we must overcome. We must break our links, sever our ties; plumb the depths of our unconsciousness, and cut the bonds with which we've bound ourselves.
Confronted by the intrigue of conspiracy and cover-up, we don't react to the sham by constructing an equally dogmatic, paranoid worldview. Nor do we become down-cast, depressed or consumed with red-hot anger. There is no point in hiding away or running wildly in the street. Just be AWARE. From the inner certainty, clarity and calm of AWARENESS proceeds right and constructive action. Channel your anger, your fear, your hopes and dreams into TOTAL AWARENESS. By discerning society's true condition you are free from the bonds of ignorance and no longer a pawn in the game. Awakening from the sleep of conditioned existence we can appreciate the words of the Sufi teacher Al Ghazzali: "The higher one ascends a mountain, the farther one sees."
Some radical students of the Bible identify the existing social, political and economic order as "Babylon". A name synonymous with a system of total oppression and exploitation, taken from the Book of Revelation. The government, the bureaucracy, indeed all worldly authorities are mere instruments of Babylon. Babylon, built on falsehood and sustained by ignorance, will one day come crashing down because of fundamental untruths. Awakened to the actual nature of this world, one's life is that of exile. A stranger in a strange land. Conspiracy and cover-up is what we first encounter when we begin to perceive real life in Babylon.
"It may be that mankind has been invited to participate in a bizarre kind of contest with some undeclared cosmic opponents," says Brad Steiger, a writer on the paranormal. "Man may have been challenged to play the Reality Game; and if he can once apprehend the true significance of the preposterous clues, if he can but master the proper moves, he may obtain a clearer picture of his true role in the cosmic scheme of things."

The Dark Side
As we enter the 21st Century, is history destined to repeat itself, and replicate the popularity of Occultist movements in Germany and Austria at the end of the 19th Century, the precursor to the Nazi Third Reich?
Following in the Rosicrucian footsteps of Madame Blavatsky and her Theosophy movement, self-proclaimed guru Sir Laurence Gardner, just as Germany's Guido von List before him, is on a messianic mission to initiate the world into his insanely racist delusions that somehow manage to get mainstream publication. His book "Genesis of the Grail Kings" not only attempts to rationalize "Satanism and Vampirism", but tries to justify genocide as the most consistent and appropriate method used by "the Gods" when the Earth's population gets "too large or tiresome" for the ruling elite to handle.
Just as in Blavatsky's "Secret Doctrine", Gardner spuriously invents elaborate genealogies "proving" that the Grail bloodline aristocratic families and the Aryan race are the result of "genetic engineering and cloning by the Annunaki Gods who visited this planet at the dawn of civilization". The "Afro-Asian sub-races were specifically created to be their slaves" and "serve the Annunaki by providing them with food, drink and habitation" while these rulers "spent a great deal of time drinking wine and quarrelling".
These theories are nothing more than an elaboration of Blavatsky's "Atlantean Master Race" jargon, but take into account the discovery of Sumerian myths on clay tablets in the 1920's. Zecharia Sitchen, a self-proclaimed "expert" on these tablets, perhaps unconsciously reveals the true motive of these beliefs when he translates that "the Annunaki Gods created the Black Headed people (Sumerians) to mine for gold in South Africa". Startlingly, his translations were recently validated during a meeting with senior Vatican official Monsignor Corrado Balducci, a member of the Curia and Cardinal Ratzinger's ultra-conservative Congregation of the Faith.
It is ironic that following the publication of his book Gardner was expelled from his position as Chancellor of the Dragon Court by Prince Nicholas de Vere. One may think this was because Gardner dropped the ball and told all, but this is not the case. Sovereign Grand Master de Vere was angry that he had not been given proper credit for these alarming revelations of exactly what goes on in the minds of the power elite. De Vere surprisingly claims to be the true author of the work, having provided archival information and documents to Gardner from the Royal vaults of the Dragon Court, proving that this belief system has been handed down generation to generation through the ages. Now reaching bizarre proportions, De Vere has set up his own website to further educate the "flim flam peasant stock masses" about the "health benefits of Satanism and Vampirism".
Meanwhile Gardner is aiding King Charles I's descendant Prince Michael Stewart to execute a "quiet Restoration in Scotland". It would be additionally disturbing that Prince Michael should be associated with Gardner, who is the son of Gerald Gardner, the notorious occultist and father of modern witchcraft, were it not for the fact that Gardner is also the Presidential Attache to the European Council of Princes, who admit they received funds from the CIA. The links between the European aristocracy, occultism and Satanism, and the CIA is apparently no longer "cloak and dagger" knowledge.
Prince Michael reveals his newest "ambassadors" include an American ex-military intelligence agent and a member of the South African Free State security forces. While Prince Michael is a relatively small fish with huge ambitions, his choice of cronies illustrates the circles he aims to gravitate within, and no doubt mirrors the really big fish like Prince Otto von Habsburg of Austria, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and the British Royal Family. Gardner spells out his objectives clearly when he writes they are "born and bred to be leaders of humankind... who await the Restoration of our true universal inheritance".
This would be amusing if it were not for the fact that Gardner recently spoke at Yale's elite "Skull and Bones" secret society and that "Genesis of the Grail Kings" is an international bestseller, being particularly popular amongst the right-wing neo-Nazi conspiracy theorists who like Hitler and the Nazis claim "the Jews are ruling the world through the banks and secret societies, and preventing the true leaders of the elite Aryan race from taking their rightful thrones".
Gardner's rationalization of Vampirism becomes sublime "Endocrinal supplements are used by today's organo-therapy establishment, but their inherent secretions (such as melatonin and serotonin) are obtained from the desiccated glands of dead animals and they lack the truly important elements which exist only in live human glandular manufacture."
The end result of this belief system can be found in the work of Aleister Crowley, who was a major influence on Adolf Hitler, and who was initiated into the original Austro-German Rosicrucian circles, as Scientology creator L.Ron Hubbard also claimed. In Crowley's "Magick in Theory and Practice" he explains the reasons for ritual death and why small boys are the best victims "It was the theory of the ancient magicians that any living being is a storehouse of energy varying in quantity according to the size and health of the animal, and in quality according to its mental and moral character. At the death of this animal this energy is liberated suddenly. For the highest spiritual working, one must accordingly choose that victim which contains the greatest and purest force. A male child of perfect innocence and high intelligence is the most satisfactory and suitable victim." Crowley adds in a footnote that according to the records of the Order of the Oriental Templars' Frater Perurabo, he performed just such a sacrifice 150 times every year between 1912 and 1928.
Recent reports by Britain's highly regarded newspaper "The Sunday Times" gave accounts of witnesses describing "Black Masses in which children were killed in front of audiences including prominent members of Belgian society". One investigator said "It was like going back to the Middle Ages". This activity has been linked to Belgium's and France's "paedophile murder ring" which came to light in 1996, following many high-profile arrests by the newly elected government of France. Documentation recovered was signed by someone describing himself as the Egyptian God Anubias, requested "presents" for the High Priestess of the Order, and gave specific details of the age and sex the victims must be. Earlier this year Britain's "Scotland Yard" crime squad began major investigations into organized Satanic ritual abuse and murder.
It is interesting to note that Gardner's prefect Prince Michael Stewart, a Belgian by birth, whose titles include President of the European Council of Princes, Grand Protector of the Imperial and Royal Dragon Court, Grand Master of the Knights Templar, and Archpriest of the Celtic Church, only recently returned to Scotland after living all of his life in Belgium.
Recent extraordinary claims by the semiotically-inspired revelations of British author David Icke could easily be dismissed as lunacy, if it were not for their authentication by Gardner and Drakenberg. Icke's claims that "the aristocracy are shape-shifting Reptilians from outer space who consume children", are no more bizarre than Gardner's "Genesis of the Grail Kings" that candidly admits that their Annunaki ancestors were "serpentine" in appearance, and not only "came down from another dimension" but sustained their power by snorting "a white powder alchemically converted from their stocks of gold". Perhaps the Annunaki were the first drug pushers, and history is their bad trip?
Gardner's claim to be a "Guardian of the Creachaire Portal" may give some idea of what is summoned from the dark recesses of their deeply disturbed psyches. While their minds may appear to be sane, their souls are definitely mad. A Heart of Darkness thirsts for socio- economic-political power, in an attempt to avoid facing the truth of his own inevitable demise.
The Aryan aristocratic bloodlines are not from outer space, but simply came down from the Black Sea region at the beginning of civilization. Recent archeological discoveries by "Titanic" explorerer Robert Ballard deep beneath the Black Sea have revealed submerged ancient dwellings and evidence of a Great Flood, which may have created the Black Sea over 7000 years ago. As the Mediterranean Sea overflowed into the region, the washed-out Scythian/Aryan tribes, no doubt angered by the actions of their Annunaki Gods, were forced South towards the early agricultural settlements of Sumer. The hunter/gatherer Aryan tribes promptly enslaved the agricultural tribes of Sumer, and declared themselves their rulers. The Aryans became kings not because of any Divine ordination or extraterrestrial superiority, but simply because they were ruthless and violent predators, apparently with a grudge against God and Nature. And they have been on top ever since, with the same cynical "Paradise Lost" mentality that seeks comfort in the illusion of Power, and the sadistic control of the lives of others.
This deluded perception of reality, not only by the Power Elite, but equally through the unconscious mytho-poetic beliefs of orthodox Roman Catholicism, ultimately led to the schizophrenic crack-up of Nazi Germany, and brought us to the brink of Armageddon.
If these same beliefs prevail, will the World face a similar fate in the 21st Century?

The Enigma of William Clinton

Clinton is the last US president of this millennium. In a way he is the last chord of a cadence — he is the president of the Fukuyamian "end of history". His psychological, political and ideological image are in their own way marks of the postmodern. He is one of the greatest successes the West has had on its road to total world domination.
However, the objective meaning of this emblematic figure is radically different from his overall image. He is not at all like a cultural hero, "the great winner". Here we must look for the enigma of William Clinton, because there is such an enigma. His banality, unclarity and pseudo-lighthearted predictability do carry a deeper meaning.
Clinton became the US president when the country that had originally presented the very essence of "post-history" was ready to unveil its civilised dictatorship to the rest of mankind. Today’s planet earth is a US colony of sorts, and in this context William Clinton has become the "lord of this world".
From the ideological point of view, Clinton has three separate elements in him, all united in one big whole in order to make him the president in such an important moment for the United States and the whole Western world.
Let us examine these elements.
An Untypical Democrat
William Clinton was elected from the Democratic party. In the two-party system of the United States, Democrats are usually considered on "the left". They are different from the right with their social demands; demands to raise taxes from the wealthier parts of the population, and to lower taxes on the poor; support for the demands of various minorities (sexual, racial, religious); pacifism; orientation towards lowering military funding; priorities of "basic human values" over American interests; sympathy for the moderate forms of social-democracy; the ideology of "human rights"; support for multi-national organisations (like the UN); the search for a "rightist conspiracy" behind every crisis; easy and smiley behaviour; the resulting "globalism", ie. striving in some perspective for the creation of One World, a world without nations, states, peoples, and borders.
By inverting these theses we get the classical Republican rhetoric: demands for cutting social expenses; readiness to lower taxes on the wealthy classes, so that every class would be equal in terms of taxing; priority of the norms of the moral majority over the "perverted"; militarism; demands for military funding; readiness to support American interests over all the rest; anti-socialism and anti-communism; free enterprise; criticism towards multi-national organisations (UN included); search for a "leftist conspiracy" behind every crisis; worried and near-ascetic behaviour; the basic ideology of American domination over the entire world rather than the "One World" ideal.
However, the Democrat Clinton doesn’t sport all the basic characters. For various reasons, his comrades have many times blamed him for being "too rightist", ie. too much like Republican politicians. The ideological secret of Clinton is that in him we can spot the very elements of "right" and "left" that are typical of our age. Clinton represents the ideal figure of a liberal — a liberal, not a democrat or a liberal-democrat.
The point is that liberalism is the exclusive ideological model that has become the highest norm of political correctness at the end of the 20th century, when all the other ideological models have fallen apart. These were once the models that opposed the aforementioned tendency, and thus gave birth to the restructuralisation of the political arena.
Liberalism as such is an ideology, whose economic part is based on "rightist" ideologies ("market economy", "Republicanism"), and political part on "leftist" ("democracy", "Libertarianism"). The common denominator of such a synthesis is an international strategy, best characterised by the word "Atlantism", ie. striving to gain strategic control over the whole planet for the West, using NATO members. However, it makes no difference, what we call this Altlantism — it could be "globalism" (infiltration of universal, individualist values of "the American way" to all peoples in order to create a "unified humanity" from the smallest possible particles) or just "Americanism" (forcing other countries under the strategic interests of the United States); both variants of Atlantism differ in nuances and methods only, but serve the very same purpose — total Western domination.
William Clinton is democratic in those spheres that are not concerned with economics or foreign policy. He smiles a lot, he is soft, tolerant, sympathises with minorities and feminism, portrays a social orientation (to raise the level of medical services), likes to speak about "human rights". By doing so, he is very much like the classical stereotype of a democrat, trying to beat even Kennedy.
Meanwhile, Clinton is very close to the political right whenever there is a question about taxing, free enterprise, and especially keeping on with the herd American way in international affairs, where the United States has during the Clinton era acted out cruel, aggressive strategies of "rightist" Atlantism (eg. Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan).
According to the testimony of friends, Clinton is worried about how he will look in the sequence of US presidents. From the ideological point of view, he is the "ideal" president, "the last president" in the same sense as Nietzsche spoke about "the last people".
The Sexual Conspiracy
Clinton’s whole political history has been accompanied by sexual scandals. Psychoanalysis of Clinton’s sex life is one of the favourite themes of American psychologists and publicists. We know no less of his intimate life, sexual preferences and perversions than we know about the deviances of the exhibitionist Madonna. One would think that a pragmatic politician who is on the top of political power in the first country of the world could control his appetite or at least take care of hiding the secrets. Clinton’s psychological portrait doesn’t lead us to think that we are dealing with a weak-minded good-for-nothing who cannot control his own deeds.
There must be some other mechanisms or reasons behind all this. The psychoanalyst Paul Lovinger has presented the following version: William Clinton and his wife Hillary ("Billy and Hilly") represent the contemporary analogue of the divine couple, a remake of sorts of the ancient mythological "god" and "goddess". This is exactly how the infantile collective American audience raised on cartoons, Hollywood fantasies and horror, see them. Hillary is the Great Mother of America. She is concerned over the poor, and both active women and passive men count on her. Her public function corresponds to the ancient Greek goddess Hera.
Bill Clinton himself is the incarnation of the playful Zeus, surrounded by nymphs and the staff of the White House. His escapades have a psychological as well as mythological meaning. He is proof of the proliferate power and universal attractiveness of the American male. The fact that Hillary, being constantly cheated on by her husband, is always ready to stand for this in front of enemies, illustrates the fact that we are not dealing with spontaneous human emotions, but a carefully planned psychodrama played on the scene of a global theatre. There is also another, rather paradoxical version of the secret backgrounds behind the sexual scandals concerning the first couple of the planet. It is based on the idea that Clinton, standing for "rightist" ("Republican") ideas, constantly plays around rather carelessly in order to hide the fact that his policy lacks all really Democratic steps.
Hillary Clinton once came up with a version that all the scandals (be they real or supposed adulteries) have been constructed by the "rightists". On the other hand, these very same "rightists" continued to blame Clinton for being a "Nazi", since he believes in a conspiracy theory, which is rather close to, well, you know what...
Game Over
William Clinton is not a subject to criticise. He presents in himself, in his acts and words, the objective picture of how things are. He is the mirror of history, a humble and adequate actor playing his part, so that we cannot alter even a single intonation of his speech, not to mention the actual words. He has been blamed for not making any decisions, but no decisions are possible after the end of history. Some people claim that he hasn’t changed a single thing in American history, but it is impossible to change anything in this life.
The last president, the fair-haired Baptist, the globalist "lord of this world", with complete power over the entire planet, is incapable of completing anything.
His protruding eyes bring to mind the physiognomy of Volodin from Sologub’s "A Petty Devil", powerlessly and unhappily testifying: "That was all. Were you expecting something more? Oh, c’mon, be realistic... That was definitely all."
Game over.
